Funciones y títulos cinematográficos. Las películas de animación traducidas del inglés al chino entre 1995 y 2012 Tesis

Abstract

Los títulos cinematográficos, a pesar de su brevedad, condensan el contenido de los filmes u ocultan parte de este a fin de suscitar curiosidad en el público para lograr que vaya a verlas. Estos títulos tienen una gran importancia en lo referente al éxito comercial de las películas, sin embargo, no han asumido mucha relevancia en la Traductología. Esta tesis ha intentado aplicar un modelo funcional para analizar la traducción del inglés al chino de los títulos de películas de animación.

Después del capítulo 1 que es una introducción, en el capítulo 2, revisamos las escasas investigaciones dedicadas a discutir la traducción de los títulos cinematográficos para llegar a centrarnos en el modelo funcional de Nord. A fin de abarcar el aspecto icónico de los títulos cinematográficos en el análisis, aprovechamos la teoría de la paratraducción para poder proponer un nuevo concepto, el microtítulo cinematográfico, que es el conjunto iconotextual del título, el eslogan y la imagen impresos en un cartel de una película dada. En el capítulo 3, realizamos una revisión de la historia de importación de las películas de animación en China continental y esbozamos la figura del titulador de dichas películas traducidas al chino con una presentación de las normas chinas que regulan la actividad de titulación de las películas. En el capítulo 4, primero, detallamos el proceso de la recogida de datos, que ha sido laborioso, y después, con tres corpus de microtítulos cinematográficos construidos, presentamos la metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa del posterior análisis. Antes de realizar dicho análisis, en el capítulo 5, enumeramos los parámetros relacionados con la realización de las funciones en los microtítulos cinematográficos. A continuación, conforme a la metodología de análisis explicado en el capítulo anterior, llevamos a cabo los análisis individuales de los microtítulos cinematográficos de cada uno de los tres corpus en primer lugar y los análisis comparativos después. En el capítulo 6, recogemos las conclusiones finales y sugerimos algunas futuras líneas de investigación. Terminamos esta tesis con un anexo de normas de censura del cine en China continental y los anexos de nuestros corpus de microtítulos cinematográficos, seguidos por la bibliografía revisada.

Film titles, despite their brevity, can condense the content of films or hide part of this to arouse the public’s interest about the movies. Given its importance in relation to the commercial success of films, these titles, however, have not gained comparable importance in Translatology. This thesis has intended to apply a functional model for analyzing the translation of animation film titles from English to Chinese.

After Chapter 1, which is an introduction, in Chapter 2, we examine the limited research devoted to discussing the movie title translation to come to concentrate us in the functional model of Nord. In order to take into consideration the iconic aspect of the movie titles in our analysis, we take advantage of the paratranslation theory for proposing a new concept, the movie microtitle, to refer to the title, tagline and image printed on the poster of a given film as a whole. In Chapter 3, we review the history of the importation of animation films in mainland China and we sketch the figure of the responsible for titling the mentioned films with a presentation of the Chinese norms on such activity of titling. In Chapter 4, we first detail the laborious process of data collection and then we present our quantitative and qualitative methodology for analyzing the movie microtitles catalogued in our three corpora recently constructed. Before enter into the analysis, in Chapter 5, we enumerate the parameters related to the realization of the functions of movie titles. Afterwards, according to the methodology of analysis established in the former chapter, we carry out the individual analysis of the movie titles in each of our three corpora and then the comparative analysis between them. In Chapter 6, we give our final conclusion and suggest some possible ways to continue the current work. We finish this thesis with an appendix of the norms of censorship in mainland China and the appendix of our three corpora of movie microtitles, followed by the reviewed bibliography.
