Abstract

The thesis aims to identify and analyze the transformations that the modern industrial society experiences with respect to subjective notions of the centrality of work informers two companies: Spain and Germany. We propose an approach on two levels. On the one hand, theoretical analytical cut in which we have a tour of the guesswork and sociological diagnoses regarding the transformations that modern societies are experiencing in their organization. In turn we identify changes also impact the work as a social institution; ie as an ideology, system of material production, organizational, social action and subjective considerations. This first exercise the central categories that guide the research perspective are retaken. The following approach is quantitative court. This identification of the changes deepens from empirical data review. We use surveys offered by the World Values Survey (WVS) from 1990 to 2014 in five stages. Thus, relying on the purpose of the WVS is to show the universes of meaning regarding different spheres of everyday life, we use a variable that explores the importance of work to explore and multivariate descriptive form. The method of data analysis is intended to reveal the degree of importance that the work represents, compared to other areas of life. It also seeks to explain the relationship of the centrality of work in the conditions of material wealth and social development of each country. Also aims to explain the ideological-cultural, structural and labor and demographic conditions that enable or undermine the tendency to value work as central to life. All this from a comparative and retrospective look in both territories. And finally, we generate a typological proposal informant with high centrality of work from the last survey raised.
