Pero todos hemos nacido con una apreciación natural de la luz y la sombra y nuestros entornos construidos preferidos conviven en esa dualidadIn the history of architecture, natural light has been conditioning and is based on the play of light and s hade, materializing space and materializing volumes, With the growth of artificial lighting most have tended to Flood light, forgetting the role of the shadow. It has become the paradigm of the ordinary and that familiarity prevents us from seeing the wonder involved. However it affects our perception, readability of space and our conscience:.
When we speak of the design process of urban lighting, we use variables such as Electric power, light output, optical efficiency etc.. however it is not customary to speak of the factor, shadow effect. (The architectural form and space definition are due to the contours which define the shade).
shadow The word has a broader meaning than its Latin root. So-under, low light umbra.
In Art, Shadow also means giving volume to the image, but continues to define the action of decreasing light. Shadow is what makes the world have parameters that allow us to understand our environment, being a result of the third dimension of space. Despite this, many times the importance of shade in the design of artificial lighting is often underestimated. We do not realize that without shadows, spaces may not be experienced in their
entirety, the ability to understand the architectural aspects are lost. shadow not only influences our emotional experience of space, but also in other way Shadow reveals dimensionality, and scales (umbra, penumbra) exposing the surface textures and materials. It has the ability to influence perceptual atmosphere of a space, you can make one feel relaxed and alert, animated or subdued.
a process of designing urban lighting that values the shadows is neither an art nor a science, but both. This is a field that can be confused by technical terms, and complex physical issues are used. But we are all born with a natural appreciation of light and shadow and our preferred built environments allow this duality to coexist.
