This research was focused on the synthesis of Au and Pd nanoparticles functionalized peripherally with organometallic fragments. With this goal in mind it was synthesized a new ditopic thiol-phosphine compound HS(CH2)11OOCC6H4PPh2 (L). By ligand exchange processes of alkanethiolate protected gold and palladium nanoparticles with L or L ligands with the phosphine function blocked with metal fragments or clusters, were obtained gold and palladium nanoparticles functionalized on its surface with a heterometallic cluster of AuFe2 (AuNP4) and organometallic fragments of PdCl(η3-2-MeC3H4) (PdNP2), IrCl(cod) (PdNP3), RuCl2(p-cymene) (PdNP4), RhCl(cod) (PdNP5), Rh(cod)(OTf) (PdNP6) and RhCl(CO) (PdNP7). These nanoparticles were examined using HRTEM, NMR, IR, TGA and XPS. Palladium nanoparticles peripherally functionalized with organometallic fragments showed catalytic activity in C-C coupling reactions, hydrogenation and hydrovinylation processes.
Moreover, conjugates of tetraamino cobalt(II) phtalocyanine (CoTAPc) and gold nanoparticles functionalized with COOH (AuNP5) were synthesized and characterized (AuNP6). Carbon paste electrodes modified with these conjugates exhibited electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of the L-cysteine, which was evaluated by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry.
