This thesis develops a study of two important aspects of the construction companies, first known as are the construction companies inside, organization and functional structure and the second how is the level of acquisition of IT in these companies.
We developed interviews with managers of construction companies classifying them into small, medium and large companies, which surveys were also developed to determine a level of specific variables, existing partnerships with the level of investment, level of knowledge and complexity in construction projects.
An important part of the work involved in shaping the organizational structures of construction companies (design enterprise architecture) to determine the processes performed (although some companies do not formalized as such, but only at the level of activities) in the everydayness of their operations. A contribution of the thesis has been to present the formalization of it (the process) but by extension of the thesis only the results are now presented.
Regarding the level of acquisition and transfer, it had to make an important partition and also as real of these companies have the vision of a construction company as a "company" with the definition of policies, strategic objectives, financial and economic performance; with the other side of the coin is the construction company oriented "projects", which seeks above all efficiency, timeliness, cost reduction, quality levels.
On the one hand, Information Systems Enterprise (ERP, SAP, ORACLE) is used and on the other hand specific solutions for restriction of the project, such as planning the "Primavera Project Planning", or else to design used conceptualizing used BIM (Building Information Modelling), to name a few.
As a first result of the thesis is to mention that it has two separate construction companies worlds, those working in a central office that handle accounting, finance, all traditional human resources and the other world is the real world construction is the world of projects, it is a completely different company world. In the first case, working professionals that support the business and they do not understand much of the construction, while in the construction world have civil engineers who do not understand accounting, finance.
An important aspect was the proposal developed research from statistical point of view, then say it is an understanding of what is or are the construction companies, define the final structure research
The level of Observational research is Explanatory without intervention.
It has developed the approach, contrast and analysis of statistical hypotheses CHI square to see the causal relationship between indicators versus the variables described (ejm. Skill level vs efficient application technologies).
It also has come to develop a multivariate analysis to enter a deeper level than the segmentation of businesses such as its size (small, medium and large) using the statistic Cochran and Mantel-Haenszel. Coming to further determine the causal variables IT application (such as sourcing, planning and construction, interoperability and knowledge management) to delve into those showing dependence on the efficient application of IT. This last part developed using logistic regression.
This last part is fascinating because you can achieve determine an equation that set the behavior or measure the efficient application of IT.
