Abstract

TESIS DOCTORAL.

DOCTORAL THESIS.

.
INITIAL HYPOTHESIS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE THESIS.
The investigation starts with the hypothesis that large corporations with headquarters in Catalonia do not carry out economical management information procedures (neither cost analysis nos profitability analysis) in the training department due to:
- The lack of methodologies for that purpose.
- The cost and complexity of carrying out that control.
- The background formation, basically in human sciences, that most of the training responsibles in those corporations hold.
Main objectives for the thesis are the verification of the initial hypothesis and the generation of flexible and simple models that might facilitate economical management information control in the training area of large corporations.

METHODOLOGY EMPLOYED.
In order to verify those hypothesis and to generate the above mentioned models, the methodology employed in the research follows the following steps:
1) Previous bibliographical investigation of the theoretical framework of reference.
2) Design of the testing population that would allow the field investigation to reveal the state of the art.
3) Design and elaboration of the questionnaire that permits the adequate collection of information.
4) Collection of information, statistical processing of the data and analysis.
5) Verification of the initial hypothesis.
6) Construction of the application models based on the results of the previous phases of the investigation.
7) Submission of the models to the opinion of several companies and experts and pilot application of the same in a especific company.
8) Construction of the final models and final conclusions.
The field research allows us to positively contrast practically all the different hypothesis that were initially stated at the beginning of the investigation.

OBJECTIVES REACHED BY THE INVESTIGATION.
The thesis starts with a theoretical analysis of the best practices in the analysed companies and of the state of the art and launches some hypothesis that will be checked during the investigation process.
As a result of this job a new strategic management information system methodology is designed, that helps executives to manage the training department of a corporation from a different perspective, being it finally considered as a profit center.
This global methodology is divided into three models:
- Cost analysis in corporate training that is based in the conclusions of the field research previously mentioned.
- Profitability analisys in corporate training that is also based on the conclusions of the field research and in the contributions of well known authors in the matter. The new model gives a more applied vision to those authors' contributions and adds a real operative process to most of the old models.
- Operating balance scorecard for the training department that is basically nourished by the two previous models.
