Esta tesis está incluida en la disciplina de la aeroelasticidad. En ella se formulan modelos matemáticos simplificados (que adoptan la forma de osciladores) para describir la interacción entre una corriente de aire y un objeto flexible de forma roma. La propuesta de estos modelos puede ser de interés para el estudio del efecto del viento sobre estructuras pertenecientes al ámbito civil, como puentes esbeltos, rascacielos, tendidos eléctrico, chimeneas, antenas de radio, y un largo etcétera. Asimismo pueden ayudar a estudiar el efecto del viento sobre elementos naturales, ya sean árboles o vegetación diversa. A lo largo de la tesis se estudian en detalle tres fenómenos aeroelásticos pertenecientes al ámbito de la aerodinámica civil. Dos de ellos presentan la particularidad de ocurrir para valores extremos de la velocidad reducida (parámetro que compara dos tiempos característicos: el asociado al movimiento de la estructura y el asociado al flujo), lo que permite introducir hipótesis simplificatorias en la descripción de las fuerzas aerodinámicas. En primer lugar se estudia el galope transversal. Se trata de un fenómeno aeroelástico que aparece cuando las fuerzas aerodinámicas asociadas a las pequeñas oscilaciones de la estructura tienen un carácter desestabilizante. Generalmente la velocidad reducida es grande frente a la unidad y se puede suponer la hipótesis cuasiestacionaria. Esta hipótesis permite caracterizar el fenómeno en función de datos aerodinámicos estáticos. Se ha desarrollado un modelo de un grado de libertad sometido a fuerzas aerodinámicas no lineales, se estudia su dinámica y en particular se analizan las condiciones para que aparezca el fenómeno de histéresis. Los resultados obtenidos indican que dicho fenómeno está directamente relacionado con la aparición de puntos de inflexión en la curva de la fuerza aerodinámica estática en dirección transversal a la corriente respecto del ángulo de la corriente incidente. En otro capítulo de la tesis se formula un modelo para determinar la carga aerodinámica de carácter transitorio en un elemento de señalización del trasporte terrestre inducida por el paso de un vehículo. Dicho modelo está basado en uno previo propuesto por Ángel Sanz-Andrés (2004). El análisis realizado se restringe a situaciones en las que la velocidad reducida es pequeña frente a la unidad y, por tanto, únicamente se consideran efectos aerodinámicos de origen no circulatorio. Una vez formulado el modelo se realiza un estudio numérico para determinar la influencia de los parámetros mecánicos del elemento de señalización (masa, amortiguamiento y rigidez) en la fuerza aerodinámica. Se han obtenido resultados que indican un sobreesfuerzo en el elemento de señalización asociado a los efectos aeroelásticos, así como la aparición de ciclos de carga secundarios. Finalmente, se aborda el estudio de las oscilaciones inducidas por una calle de torbellinos. Este fenómeno se produce típicamente con valores de la velocidad reducida de orden unidad, que hace aun más complejo si cabe su análisis. Para este estudio hemos desarrollado un modelo fenomenológico simple de un grado de libertad. Los resultados obtenidos con el modelo son razonablemente buenos en comparación con datos experimentales existentes. El ingrediente esencial que diferencia el modelo elaborado de otros existentes es que requiere como datos de entrada parámetros aerodinámicoestáticos. Además, se han diseñado y realizado experimentos de visualización, basados en la técnica de la precipitación electrolítica, sobre un cilindro que se desplaza por un tanque de agua a la vez que oscila transversalmente, con idea de contrastar las hipótesis introducidas en la elaboración del modelo. Los resultados obtenidos son bastante satisfactorios. Abstract Wind effects considered in Wind Engineering can be categorized in three ways: (i) time-averaged wind loads and pressures, (ii) pressure fluctuations induced by turbulence and (iii) oscillatory phenomena due to wind. The modern trends in design and manufacturing have induced that category (iii) had become increasingly important. In many structures, it is essential to consider oscillatory phenomena due to wind (aeroelastic), in the construction phase and during the structure service life. The main aerodynamic feature concerned with civil structures is that they are typi¬cally bluff and therefore it is not possible to make a theoretical treatment to determine their aerodynamic behavior. The civil aerodynamics in general, and civil aeroelasticity in particular, rely almost entirely on experimental work. However, under certain conditions it is possible to make certain assumptions to obtain a more analytical formulation of the problem. In aeroelasticity, characteristic timescales associated with the problem under study can afford to introduce some assumptions to simplify the analysis. Two major simplifications are possible if the characteristic timescale associated with the flow (resi¬dence time) and the characteristic timescale associated with the movement of structure are very different. This thesis explores three aeroelastic phenomena belonging to the sphere of aeroelas-ticity of bluff bodies: transverse galloping, transient response to a gust in a signalling, and vortex-induced vibrations. Transverse galloping is an aeroelastic phenomenon which is due to the destabilizing nature of the aerodynamic forces associated with small oscillations in the structure. Generally, the residence time is small compared with the characteristic time scale of oscillation and the cuasi-static hypothesis can be assumed. This allows to characterize the phenomenon in terms of aerodynamic static data. In Chapter 2, a nonlinear one-degree-of-freedom model based on that assumption is presented. The dynamics of the model is studied and, in particular, the hysteresis phenomenon that may take place is analyzed. The results of the analysis indicate that the phenomenon is directly related to the emergence of inflection points in the curve of the aerodynamic static force in the transverse direction with the angle of incidence. In the the problem relating to determinate the load induced in a signalling by a gust we have included the aeroelastic effects in a previous model developed by Sanz-Andres et al (2004). The analysis is restricted to situations where the characteristic timescale associated with the flow is much larger than the characteristic timescale of the oscillatory motion, and therefore we only consider aerodynamic effects from non-circulatory origin. We have obtained results that indicate a overstress on the signalling associated with the aeroelastic effects. Finally we deals with the study of vortex-induced vibrations. We have developed a simple one-degree-of-freedom phenomenological model. The results predicted by the model are reasonably good compared with experimental data. The essential ingredient of the model is that it requires as input parameters static aerodynamic data (in a different manner of existing models). Indeed, we have been designed and conducted flow visualizations experiments, based on the electrolytic precipitation technique, on a circular cylinder which moves rectilinear in a water tank and is oscillating transverse to the flow. The aim is to contrast the simplifying hypotheses introduced in the development the model. The results are quite satisfactory.
